Sports blades
When was the last time you went for a run? We understand better than anyone that you want to stay active and participate in sports, even if you wear a leg prosthesis. That’s why we offer you the opportunity to try out a sports blade.
You can rent a sports blade for three months. During this time, you will receive training of movement coach Frank, who will guide you with the blade and provide you with useful tips.
Who are sports blades for?
Sports blades and running are possible for everyone! We offer sports blades in various sizes, brands, and heights. We are happy to assist and guide you through the process, whether you want to run recreationally or aim to train professionally.
However, a sports blade is not suitable if you have an insufficient build height (from your stump to the ground).

Frequently asked questions about sports blades
Who are sports blades suitable for?
Sports blades are suitable for anyone with a leg prosthesis who would like to experience what it is like to participate in sports using a running blade, provided that the available build height (from the residual limb to the ground) is sufficient.
Which sports can I use a sports blade for?
A sports blade can of course be used for running, but it is also suitable for many other sports. Think of tennis, volleyball, korfball, and more. A sports blade is designed to help you move more easily and efficiently during sports activities. If it provides a benefit for your specific sport, then a sports blade may be a suitable option.
How much does it cost to rent a sports blade?
You can rent a sports blade from us for three months for €150, plus a €35 security deposit. This includes a training session with our movement coach, Frank Dik, who will help you get started.
Can I extend the rental period after three months?
Yes, it is possible to extend your rental period after the initial three months. This can be useful, for example, if you have applied for your own sports blade and are still waiting for approval.
What are the differences between the available brands and sizes?
We offer sports blades from various brands and in different sizes. The correct size depends on factors such as your build height (from your residual limb to the ground) and your body weight. Every individual is unique and moves differently, making the most suitable blade highly personal. What works well for one person may not feel as comfortable for another. That is why we offer a range of brands, models, and sizes. Our team will help you find the option that best suits your needs.
Can I purchase a blade after the rental period?
You can purchase your own sports blade after the rental period, but it may also be possible to apply for funding through the municipality (WMO), your health insurance provider, or Uniek Sporten. We will guide you through the application process. It is important to note that you play an active role in the application yourself.
What does the training session with movement coach Frank involve?
Frank Dik will be present when you try the blade for the first time and will guide you through your first steps. He will assess your movement pattern and identify opportunities for improvement. He provides advice on running and general movement techniques, and can also help you determine how and where to train most effectively.
How is running with a blade different from walking with a regular prosthesis?
A sports blade is designed to flex and store energy when pressure or weight is applied during sports activities. It functions like a powerful spring, which can help you move more efficiently and potentially at higher speeds. However, learning how to use a sports blade effectively takes practice. Unlike a sports blade, a standard leg prosthesis remains relatively rigid when weight is applied.
