Gait analysis

Do you want to know how you walk and if there are any improvements you can make to your gait? You can have your walking pattern analyzed in our gait lab. We refer to this as gait analysis.

A gait analysis from Protec

How does it work?

Video recording

You will gain insight into your walking pattern and the strain on your body while walking on your prosthetic leg through video footage. Additionally, it can be assessed whether any adjustments to your prosthesis are necessary.

Force measurement

Through a special force measurement plate, we can see how the forces are distributed across your body. This information can be used by the prosthetist to better align your prosthesis.

Feedback

You will review the footage together with the prosthetist or movement analyst. You can see (also in slow motion) how you move with the prosthesis and what improvements can be made. This input can be utilized for any potential gait training.

Personal stories

We are only happy, when you are

"Renee had a moped accident at the age of 16 and has been wearing a leg prosthesis ever since. She has been a client at our Utrecht location for several years and first got to know Protec in Amsterdam: "What a special place! You absolutely don’t feel like a patient, because there is no medical atmosphere at all. The small-scale setting also creates a great feeling. Actually, it’s hard to explain—you have to experience it."

"I arrived in the morning and left the house at four o'clock with a new prosthesis. At other instrument makers I was cast in plaster, I had to wait weeks for a tube and I had to make adjustments all the time. This was good at once. I could walk away with it right away, the tube fit like a glove. This prosthesis is attached to my leg and feels like one whole. That is quite a progress. Even though I don't walk much, I want to walk stable and good and I can do that again."

"There was no other option but to look for a counterbalance to the pain. And that’s a long process you go through. Because how do you learn to deal with such a setback? I started focusing on what I could still do, what was physically possible, what I could still enjoy. That’s how the strength to keep going was born. During that period, I learned to drive with my left leg. I’m very proud of that and happy about it!"
